The COordinated Regional Downscaling EXperiment (CORDEX) is related to the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). The intention of CORDEX is to organize an international coordinated framework for regional climate simulatons for different regions of the world.
Within CORDEX regional climate projection ensembles have been produced for many regions of the world (domains). The ensembles for each domain consist of simulations with multiple Regional Climate Models (RCMs) and are complemented with data from statistical downscaling methods. The boundary conditions for the downscaling are taken from different GCMs of the fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5). For most of the regions the grid spacing for the dwonscaling is 50 km (0.44°), favoring engagement of more modelling groups.
